Jakob Augustin was serving with JG 2 based on the
Channel front in May 1941. Leutnant Augustin was assigned to 8./JG 2 under
the command of Oberleutnant Bruno Stolle (35
victories, RK). Augustin claimed his first victory on 11 May, when he shot
down a Spitfire near Portland. On 3 July, Augustin crash-landed his Bf
109 F-2 (W.Nr. 5497) at Lumbres following aerial combat with RAF Spitfire
fighters. He was wounded in the incident. By October 1941, Augustin was
serving with 7./JG 2 under the leadership of Leutnant Egon Mayer (102 victories,
RK-S, killed in action 2 March 1944).

He was particularly successful against RAF Spitfire
fighters, claiming at least 14 of this type, including two on 12 October
1941 and a further two on 11 June 1942. On 15 July 1942, Augustin failed
to return following aerial combat over the English Channel in Fw 190 A-2
(W.Nr. 122 103) and is believed to have crashed into the sea.
Jakob Augustin was credited with at least 15 victories.
All his victories were recorded over the Western
front.
